Norway's
very popular musician and artist Kai Robert Johansen of Sarpsborg,
Norway, will make his American debut in the Midwest during the first
two weeks of October. Along with his daughter, Camilla, a vocal
artist in her own right, they will perform, meet Norwegian-Americans
and examine the influence Norwegian roots have made in the lives
of Midwesterners.
Johansen has accepted a limited
number of concerts in Minnesota and North and South Dakota without
compensation. According to Johansen, "Payment for me comes
from the audiences who I hope will share personal information and
attitudes about what it is like to be a descendant of Norwegian
immigrants, and what they would like me to pass on to my fellow
Norwegians." He is deeply interested in the relations between
Norway and Norwegian-America and hopes to promote them through music
and song.
Kai Robert Johansen is a
special education teacher and vice-principal at a public school
in Sarpsborg.. A performer for nearly 35 years, several of his 46
records have been top ten hits in Norway, three of which honor the
Norwegian Royal Family. He has also been host of his own children's
TV programs. His concert credits included many European countries
from Russia to Iceland, where his popular trumpet recordings have
achieved gold record recognition. He also writes music and lyrics
.
